The countdown to Jazz at Drew 2024 is heating up with the announcement of three dynamic acts set to grace the stage on September 21, 2024. This vibrant event, hosted by Charles R. Drew University of Â鶹´«Ã½Å®Íøºì (CDU), marks a significant return to the cultural calendar of South LA after a hiatus since 2019.
Jazz at Drew continues its tradition of showcasing premier musical talent and fostering a deep connection with the community.
This year’s lineup includes the Grammy-nominated vocal group DW3, known for their exhilarating blend of smooth ballads and high-energy funk and dance jams. Brothers Eric and Billy Mondragon, alongside Damon Reel, form this dynamic trio whose roots in East L.A bring a genuine passion and energy to their performances, embodying the spirit of Jazz at Drew.
Returning to the event after their last appearance in 2019, The Lao Tizer Band featuring Eric Marienthal will enchant the audience once again. With a new album, “Songs from the Swinghouse,” the group is ready to showcase their evolving sound which blends jazz with a broad spectrum of influences, promising a performance that resonates with both jazz aficionados and casual listeners alike.
Adding to the excitement is Erin Stevenson, whose journey from a career at NASA to the music stage is as inspiring as her performances. She has performed as a background singer for Justin Timberlake, Duran Duran, Rihana, John Legend, Janet Jackson, JLo and more and is now generating her own heat as a music star. Known for her powerful vocals and dynamic stage presence, Stevenson brings a mix of R&B with modern vibes that’s sure to captivate the Jazz at Drew audience.
