Postbaccalaureate Leadership Program FAQs

Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPostbaccalaureate Leadership Program (Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP) is a rigorous program at Â鶹´«Ã½Å®Íøºìdesigned for Premedical students to strengthen their application for medical school.

The Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPostbaccalaureate Leadership Program is a 12-month program completed over 3 terms (Summer, Fall, and Spring).

Tuition for the program is $601 per unit.* In addition, there is a Program Fee of $5,000 per term. Students in the program are required to take a minimum of 24 units, up to a maximum of 36 units.

Only students enrolled in the Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPostbaccalaureate Leadership Program may participate in the program’s activities.

Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPostbaccalaureate Leadership Program (Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP) does not allow deferment of the program start date.

Students have the flexibility to take all or some of the prerequisite courses needed to apply to medical school. The program also offers upper division science courses. Students are required to complete a minimum of 24 units, up to a maximum of 36 units during the program. In addition to academic courses, there are mandatory seminars, activities, and advisement sessions required to complete the program.

Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP Leadership will tailor each student’s academic plan to strengthen their overall application.

Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP students must be prepared to commit full-time to their academic coursework and strengthen their extracurricular activities in preparation for medical school application. Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP students will not pursue any outside employment without the prior approval of Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP Leadership and any increase in the number of hours worked or extracurricular activities is also subject to prior approval by Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP. Limited paid hours in research or a clinical setting is permitted with prior Â鶹´«Ã½Å®ÍøºìPLP leadership approval.

The program offers many experiences designed to increase success in applying to and ultimately entering into a medical school. These opportunities include rigorous MCAT preparation, tailored academic advising, medical student mentorship, paid attendance to medical conferences, research opportunities, and interview practice, in addition to a guaranteed interview for the CDU/UCLA Medical Education Program*.

Students who apply for the program are required to start the program during the cycle for which they applied. Students who choose not to start the program will need to reapply and will forfeit any paid deposits.

Students who are actively enrolled in the program may be granted a Leave of Absence at the discretion of the Program Director on a case-by-case basis.

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 doses regardless of how long ago doses were received.
  • Hepatitis B: Needs 2 or 3 dose series.
  • Varicella (Chickenpox): 2 doses.
  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap): 1 dose of Tdap, then Td or Tdap every 10 years.
  • Tuberculosis (TB) TB skin test is usually needed annually. If previously positive TB skin test then you need a recent chest x-ray
  • Influenza (annual)
  • COVID-19 (Need primary series plus booster)

The program does offer a guaranteed interview to the Â鶹´«Ã½Å®Íøºì/UCLA Medical Education Program for students who successfully complete the program.
